IRRI announces Code of Conduct to all staff; info sessions on-going


In reference to DG Memo 2014-07: The IRRI Code of Conduct, the IRRI Board of Trustees, during its October 2013 meeting, approved the IRRI Code of Conduct that replaces the outdated Code of Discipline in 2002.

The Code of Conduct (CoC) clearly lays out IRRI’s values and explains how all employees and persons under contract at IRRI are expected to interact with our stakeholders, donors, colleagues, and partners (both public and private entities), including the communities and government entities of the countries in which we operate. The CoC does not cover every issue that may arise, but sets basic principles and a methodology to guide all concerned as they work toward achieving IRRI’s mission.

After the release of the DG Memo, Human Resource Services (HRS) has organized information sessions on the CoC which are scheduled throughout April 2014 at IRRI headquarters (see table below). Before attending the information session, participants are requested to read the CoC, if possible. At the end of the session, participants will be requested to sign the Acknowledgement form that can be found on page 14 of the CoC.

The development of the CoC has taken almost a year and included a review of existing IRRI policies and best practices from other organizations, consultation sessions with IRRI staff, and a review of the outputs by the Management Committee. The CoC is accompanied by the Guidelines on IRRI’s Disciplinary Procedures, which explain the process that follows when a staff member breaches the CoC or IRRI policy.
