2014 IRRI Mid-Year Performance Reviews

HRS reminds all staff of the Mid-Year Performance Reviews which are due on 30 June 2014.

Mid-Year Performance Reviews are an important component of staff’s Individual Performance and Development system (for Nationally Recruited Staff ) and Performance Appraisal System (for Globally Recruited Staff ). They provide an opportunity for staff and their supervisors to consider the objectives set at the start of 2014, review achievements against these objectives, and appraise progress against agreed development plans. During the review, staff and supervisors jointly recognize success, identify challenges, discuss results, review priorities and clarify performance expectations going forward.

Please note that the mid-year discussion does not require a performance rating. Once completed, please email the scanned copy of the completed Mid-Year IPaD and PAS forms to Annabelle Aquino, HRS Administrator, at

For an effective mid-year performance review, we recommend following these steps:

1 Schedule a meeting
2 Review your files of what has been accomplished to date. Prepare for the discussion – what have you accomplished against your goals and what are your priorities for the rest of the year.
Share with staff what goals you think they have done effectively so far and give specific examples of what needs to be changed or improved.

Agree on how goals should be prioritized for the remainder of the year.
Ask for feedback on what you are doing well and what you might improve upon.

Discuss what you plan to achieve by the end of the year and ask what your supervisor expects you to achieve in this time frame.
4 Find out what challenges are faced by staff and how you can help address them, then follow through.
Share challenges you have experienced and progress you have made toward your own development plan with your supervisor.

Develop plan to overcome challenges, including identification of tools/resources required from supervisor.
5 Document the discussion and submit IPaD form to HRS.
