their 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years of service
The Gems of IRRI: Annual Service Awards and Employee Recognition Program, which brings the IRRI community together to acknowledge the years of service and celebrate the accomplishments of staff members, took place on 12 December 2014 at headquarters. The ceremony also recognized the winners of the Year-end 2013 & Mid-year 2014 Semi-Annual Team Awards (SATA) and the Manager’s Discretionary Awards (MDA). Deputy Director General for Research Matthew Morell, Director for Human Resource Services Christine Croombes and Director for External Relations Corinta Guerta presented the plaques and certificates of recognition to the program recipients.

During the ceremony, three of the selected service award-honorees were invited on stage to share their inspiring experiences of working at IRRI. They are: Carlos Huelma, Senior Specialist at Seed Health Unit (30-years); Cecilia Salonga, Secretary III at Plant Breeding, Genetics and Biotechnology (35-years); and Alfredo Mazaredo, Manager at Physical Plant Services (40-year). Carlos, Cecilia and Alfredo felt honored for the opportunity to share the challenges and the achievements that they have accomplished during their service at IRRI.
A Celebration Treat / Thanksgiving Dinner followed after the ceremony where HRS Director Christine Croombes gave her welcome greetings and congratulatory message. HRS Workplace Relations & Advisory Services (HRS-WRAS) Manager Joyce Finegan expressed her gratitude to the 2014 Working Committee for extending their assistance and valuable contribution in making the event successful. Strings & Quartet rendered some light and glamorous music, making the occasion more special. HRS-WRAS Advisor Margeorie Vasquez and Grain Quality & Nutrition Center (GQNC) Post Doctoral Fellow Vito Butardo, Jr. lively hosted the program.
