2016 Employee Wellness Program – Prioritizing your Health

The last part of the 2016 Q2 Employee Wellness Program was held on 22 June with several activities prepared for all IRRI staff.

Individual Counseling Session

Human Resource Services- Work Relations and Advisory Service (HR-WRAS) invited psychologist, Dr. Myrna Joyce Sanchez conducted individual counseling sessions with pre-registered staff at the HR-WRAS office.  Each counseling session lasted for 45 minutes which started from 8 until 11:45 AM.

Stress Management Seminar 

Dr. Sanchez also facilitated a Stress Management Seminar with the topic: Applying the Brakes before you Break from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at the Harrar Hall Seminar Room. The seminar focused on mindfulness based stress reduction. A total of 14 staff from the Crop and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD), Plant Breeding (PB), Genetics and Biotechnology (GB) and the Human Resource Services (HRS) departments participated in the seminar.

Blood Donation Activity

At the Safety Office Training Room, blood donation activity was also carried out from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. IRRI partnered with the Philippine National Red Cross - Sta Cruz, Rotary Club of West Bay and the Employee's Credit and Development Cooperative (ECDC) for this year's blood donation activity.

95 volunteers donated in the blood drive. Of the total volunteers, there were 32 female and 63 male participants from different units.

As shown in Figure 1, Plant Breeding (PB) ranked the highest blood donor with 18 donors,followed by Crop and Environmental Sciences Division (CESD) with 16 donors, while Safety and Security Services unit and Genetic Resource Center (GRC) had 12 donors each.

Overall, a total of 37,350 units of blood were collected, with each bag containing 450 cc. The collected units of blood will be used by the Philippine Red Cross to support the country’s national blood requirements.

The program partners were presented with Certificate of Recognition as IRRI’s way of recognizing their continued support to the blood donation program.
