DHRS Visits IRRI Myanmar Offices

During her visit to the IRRI Myanmar Offices in Yangon and Nay Pyi Taw last 18-22 July, Christine Croombes, Director for Human Resource Services (DHRS), was briefed on the staff members’ work and listened to their comments and requests.

Whilst IRRI Myanmar does not have a Corporate Services Manager at the moment, Dr Jongsoo Shin, IRRI Representative for Myanmar, has agreed to manage the corporate services and the relevant staff. He will liaise with the DHRS, who will temporarily lead the Country and Regional Offices’ corporate services.

Team building of Zeigler Experiment Station team held at Los Baños

A two-part team building activity for the staff of the Zeigler Experiment Station (ZES) was held on 21 and 27 July at the Makiling Botanic Gardens, Los Baños, Laguna.

The objectives of the activity include kickstarting the newly-formed ZES Threshing team, and enabling staff to build mutual support to make ZES a reliable service provider at IRRI.

The team building was spearheaded by Dr. James Quilty, ZES Head, and facilitated by Human Resource Services.

Defining leadership course held at HQ

The Defining Leadership Course Module 2 – Leading People and Teams was held on 4-5 July at IRRI headquarters. The program was facilitated by Chris Dixon of Growing Edge Hong Kong.

The objectives of module 2 include developing situational leadership, inspiring people to deliver performance in IRRI, and challenging to enable creativity and innovation within IRRI.

Alice Laborte (SSD), Amelia Henry (CESD), Bjoern Ole Sander (CESD), John Damien Platten (PB), Romeo Labios (CESD), Rosa Paula Cuevas (PB), Tri Deri Setiyono (SSD), and Valerien Pede (SSD) participated in the program.

Team building of Hybrid Rice-Green Super Rice team held at Los Baños

A one-day team-building activity for the staff of the newly merged Hybrid Rice and Green Super Rice was held on 30 June at the IRRI Staff House #1.

 The objectives of the activity include enabling staff members to get to know each other, build trust, and formalize and normalize the new team.

The team building was  spearheaded by Dr. Jauhar Ali, the head of the group and senior scientist II – Plant Breeding, and facilitated by the Human Resource Services.

2016 MyPAD mid-year review hands-on completion at HQ

The Human Resource Services (HRS) , in partnership with the Chief Information Office – Information Technology Services (CIO-ITS), invite all staff who need assistance in completing their 2016 MyPAD mid-year reviews to register for the hands-on completion on 18-22 July 2016 (Monday-Friday). A team of coaches will be present at the IT Learning Center from 1:30-3:30 PM to provide support.

Manager’s Discretionary Awards (MDA) in June

In recognition of their extraordinary and dedicated effort in producing the 2016 IRRI Heirloom Rice Recipes Calendar, Alaric Santiaguel, Leah Cruz, Grant Leceta, and Abigail Caballero received the IRRI Manager’s Discretionary Award in June. The four staff members were the writer, editor, creative, and coordinator, respectively, of the calendar.

The calendar won a Gold Award (1st place) in promotional publications from the U.S.-based Association for Communication Excellence in Agriculture, Natural Resources, and Life and Human Sciences.

IRRI continues to receive MDA nominations and enables managers (NRS Job Levels 7 to 8, PDF, and GRS) to recognize single instances of extraordinary work performed by IRRI Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) based at the institute’s headquarters and its country offices.
