IRRI's research chief speaks at first mentoring lunch in 2016

IRRI's Deputy Director General for Research Jacqueline Hughes shared her perspectives on guiding people to find the right direction and helping them develop solutions to career issues during the Mentoring Lunch on 14 December.

“Mentoring relationships are crucial at IRRI,” Dr. Hughes emphasized.  “They let our eyes be open to opportunities, support colleagues in a field we’re good at, and set the scene for younger colleagues by passing on a wealth of knowledge and experience.”

She ended the talk with a quote from Plutarch, “The mind is not a vessel to be filled but a fire to be kindled."

Mentoring lunches are held to give mentor-mentee pairs the opportunity to get together on a regular basis and continue discussions in an informal atmosphere. A speaker is invited to share personal thoughts on mentoring and interact with the pairs. This is part of the on-going support to mentoring at IRRI organized by the Human Resources Services.
